Great article Josh. Gives me a lot to consider. However, the lure of the wilderness does not cease its call. Living in Az, wanted to ask for some pearls of wisdom when it comes to backpacking and water. Hauling in advance, reliance upon spring locations on hiking forums, maps, etc. Also, wanted to also get input on meat care in the heat, especially with our archery deer options in August. Thx for all that you do
Trail - right on man. Thx for all that you and the team do. I agree with the initial comments from the perspective of fewer opportunities in my home state (Az), but have used the tools and data provided by gohunt to open up opportunities I never thought possible for out of state hunting. Also, totally agree that the tradition of hunting is continuously under attack and having more educated and responsible hunters out there means the stronger our voice for future generations. Tougher to draw a tag? Perhaps. But I feel its better to have more interested parties enjoying the tradition than to allow the opposition to take what we love so much away for good.
@ Brady Miller - Possibly a Newb Question; What would you say is more commonly used 1 or 2 sticks at a time? I typically carry my recurve or longbow. Bow is too large to conveniently affix to packs and still want the option to grip and rip with instinctual method aiming when do not have time to gap or crawl.
We (my hunting buddy and I) have only been using x1 pole each. Not sure how advantageous it would be to use two given our choice in bows. Often we find ourselves in steep, thick country with loose footing where I feel that I would gladly trade the longbow for a second trekking pole.
