My Wife's Family owns a Big Cattle And Grain/Hay Ranch/Farm in the Broken Now Area, we have enjoyed hunting on her Family's Property many times during Deer Season. They do get great bucks of both species Whitetail and Mule Deer on their property. The group Hidden Hills had been caught several times on the Family property that is widely known locally to be OFF LIMITS TO ANY HUNTING unless your direct family. It is clearly posted every so many yards all along their border fences....so much so that anyone would know they were tresspassing or Hunting illegally and without written permission from the Owner, My wife's Dad. Now it is possible to get permission but only AFTER ALL THE FAMILY WHO BOUGHT TAGS HAVE FILLED THEM....THEN and only then if the family knows you or your honest and up front about it....you can get written permission for that years remaining season only....but this bunch who the family knows quite well by the way have always done hinky stuff, spotlighting, hunting out of season, hunting without permission, poaching game and only taking the head and leaving the rest to feed the Coyotes, Bobcats, and Crows/Magpies.....my wife and I had found a truly magnificent Mature Mule Deer Buck in September a few years ago and got his routine down so we could maybe get a chance at him opening Morning of Rifle season and just 2 weeks before the Firearm Season opened my wife's Dad phoned me and told me that he had found the Buck while checking fence and he had been shot and his head and cape well past his front legs (obviously for taxidermy reasons) had been removed....we knew it was the same buck because he had a very distinguishing streak of very dark hair on his right hind quarter from a scar or something early in his life that plus we have countless photos of him during the last 2 yrs of his life and countless hours of daylight color game trail camera footage.....see we had put in the work to harvest this Giant Sandhills Muley. Anyway about 2 days after the opener of rifle season we heard that Buck had been killed again....remarkably 32 miles from where his Body was.....headless !.......all the necessary things were done that needed to be done and the guilty have now been punished. It's people like these that will ruin hunting for everyone. We hope and pray that every single person who was part of this whole mess is found guilty and never allowed to hunt in Nebraska in the future.
Wolves are APEX PREDATORS....unless they are a rogue or outcast from a pack.....rabbits are very seldom their prey.....Elk, Deer, Cattle, Sheep is what the pack goes after....even Bull Buffalo is not out of their relm... Coyotes now are a Rabbits worst enemy....but the presence of wolves drives every other predator out of their natural range or they get hunted down and killed.....not for food either.....just because they are competition for food. Coyotes, Fox all canine species are the first to flee then the Feline Species....Mt Lions, Lynx and Bobcats run for their lives....and lastly if there is any in the area....Even Black Bears will leave long established territories to evade the threat of a Wolf Pack. So do your homework....live amongst them for a few years.....then you can talk.
Living and working in some of the northwest's prime Wolf Habitat, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and even the Black Hills of South Dakota my family and I applaud the decision to give the rights back to those who have to face the Wolf on a daily basis. Trouble is most activist's live in metropolitan areas where they will never fear for their very life, the lives of their children and grandchildren and all types of domestic livestock. They want them but not in their backyard!....The majority of these wolves are hybrids between Canadian Grey's and Timber Wolves....you ever see either species side by side and you would understand why the Hybrid (by the way that is always bringing out traits like being more vicious or aggressive to less fear of Humans)...we have fought this from day one because we live and earn our living in the Wild places....and trust me it's one more worry we don't need. I don't care if they bring them back but let's put them where the cry baby bunny huggers live and work....they start gobbling up poodles and little house dogs and chasing joggers and the like.....boy would they ever start hollering then. So bottom line is this is a fantastic thing for the states effected and now when these packs move into an area and start clearing out all the natural prey Deer, Elk, Moose, even Black Bears will flee from areas they have lived for years....then they start in on easier prey.... livestock, and get them thinned out....you know where a hungry pack will go next.....and trust me 1000.00 running shoes and Jogging Pants by Gucci are on the menu....run or not.....your just prey of a different sort.
