Nicole thanks for the feedback, and your right the biologists are not going to be able to handle it alone. But maybe if we can get an accurate account of the number of animals along with the damage to our herds then we can better manage them. I’ve been up there enough to know there are lot more wolves then were planned on. Hopefully the courts can get this resolved sooner than later and the hunt can be reinstated.
I live in IL but our family has property in northern WI. We’ve been going up north for the past fourty years fishing and hunting. We used to have to check our deer in at a deer station but that’s gone now due to electronic registration. When the wolves were introduced the deer population plummeted causing a major decline in hunters, causing a major decline in revenue for local businesses. It used to be a family tradition to have deer camp every November but that has gone by the wayside do to lack of tags and animals. Don’t get me wrong I think wolves are beautiful animals but as with any with anything we do as humans we need to be accountable for our actions. If we are going to reintroduce an animal then we need to monitor and control its progress. Which should ultimately be left up the the biologists who work the are along with feed back from the community impacted. I also would love to see them bring back the check in stations. Not only would it hold people more accountable but it was also somewhat communal in that everyone would get a sense of the herd/game numbers. On that note, leave the politics out of it, keep people accountable, and hopefully we can find some balance.
