I hunted this area in 2017 and camped in the Vigilante Campground and during the General season. I camped the first few days near Refrigerator Canyon TH as well. When I was in Vigilante there were a couple of guys coming out on horseback bringing out a pretty good bull. I ended up taking a Muley up in the Gates.
I was looking back over this article and saw that I commented back in 2017. Well, low and behold I drew a cow tag this last year. I was able to witness an absolute rut frenzy and got it on video. I took a cow opening morning. Purchasing my lifetime Arkansas hunting license has truly paid for itself.
Great write up. I love seeing a story of the Ozark wapiti. I've been wanting to hunt those elk since the first time I saw them in Boxley Valley back in 1995. I'm hoping that I draw this tag at some point in my life.
