Dont worry about crowds in CO anymore. Those days are over. The cost of $670 for a OTC bull tag ( plus the mandatory habitat stamp and if putting in for draw mandatory fishing/small game tag). During entire hunting season I can hardly tell anymore there is hunting as they are staying away. If anyone comes I truly wish you the best of luck.
I have lived in the Pagosa Springs / Duraago CO area for 25 years. The CDOW has decimated the elk and deer herds. The OTC unlimited bull tags is a disgrace and for money only. I saw the demise when they touted this area as a hunters paradise and hunting became so intensive they were shooting everything. Now add drought and beetle kill and mismanagement I use to see 100 elk in a week without trying hunting 15 years ago. Now past 4 years hunting 15 days archery 3 does. I cover a lot of high country and areas I am no road hunter. I know 40 hunters past 3 years for rifle have not seen let alone get an elk. The CDOW hunt results include private land not fair. The day the CDOW removed the OTC bull tags from unlimited to draw will show they are serious. But I agree with most the regs and people that make them in corporate offices I wonder if they even hunt. In 2020 I am to the point I do not want to hunt anymore. I have other things I can do instead than carry bow in woods and see nothing. J
