@Tim - You will have to draw a tag in the second choice. Any tag you draw as a first choice will burn your points.

I am a Montana resident. I was just wondering if there’s a way to draw a 100% draw and retain my points for later hunts without going to second choice?

Thank you for clarifying that for me I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t more tags out there that I could easily apply for! Thanks for the response.

@Alexandre V. - You can still refund your general tag and still get that 80% refund by August 1 or a 50% refund before the start of the general season. I have done this in the past.

@Brad A. - Reading that made my day. It's great to hear that you find value in these. We will definitely keep doing them. Sorry, I should have briefly touched on the sheep, moose, goat deal. We were only approaching it from a deer and elk strategy.

So in Montana, you have to upfront the cost of the deer and elk application, but you no longer have to upfront the fees for sheep, moose, goat in Montana. They changed that a few years back (you used to have to front all the SMG fees). Not fronting is great for the bank account instead of forking out a ton of money for a few months, but since Montana changed that, draw odds have gotten worse with more people applying.

@Joe - You're very welcome. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Yeah, that will impact your party app and cause your applications to be thrown out.

All party members must apply in the same manner; either online using the same party number, OR all on paper
submitted in the same envelope. If applying online, each member must apply online as a member of that party
using the number assigned to the establisher (party leader in a sense). Each party member must apply for the same hunting districts, in the same order and all party members must choose to either participate or not participate in the preference/bonus point system.

@Eric B. and Kenneth B. - You both are very welcome!

I just want to start by saying these videos are great! I asked the question about having to up front the permit cost and the reason I asked that was because I have applied for Montana sheep, mountain goat and moose and I want to say that I apply for those species without up fronting the cost of the permit am I correct that Montana doesn't allow you to apply for deer, and elk without up fronting the permit cost but they allow you to with sheep, mountain goat and moose?

Can you refund your general tag and get an 80% refund? Wasn't sure if the refund request was just good for permit (limited entry) tags only.

Thanks for the video guys, love the website. Just a follow up question to party permits. Me and a couple other non-resident buddies are going to apply in Montana together. Does it affect anything if I as the "party leader" buy the big game combo, but they apply for deer only. Just curious is we all need to apply for the same tag or not and if that would have any impact. Thanks!
