Jonathan F, We hunted both units being we had 10 days out there. We started in unit 37A, but unfortunately my hunting buddy wasn't in quite the best of shape that was needed to go where I wanted to go. So we decided to pack up and move to the opposite side of the mountain range where we could drive and begin at a higher elevation where we thought the elk were. But as you would expect, there was more hunting pressure on that side on the mountain range as well. Needless to say, my hunting buddy promised to be in better shape for next year lol. Both units were very similar in topography, but I think roads and trails start at a higher elevation in unit 29. Unit 37A is a little rockier as well I felt. I hope I made that make sense lol.

Just got back from a 10-day elk hunt in the Lemhi's. Came away with empty coolers but I called in a really nice bull for my buddy who unfortunately didn't place a very good shot and after a 1.61 mile tracking job, the blood trail ran dry. My 10-day takeaway from hunting this area for early season Elk is, anybody looking to hunt the Lemhi area better be prepared for a very tough and rugged hunt while climbing some serious topography and not seeing a whole lot game. However, that in which you do see is of very good quality and despite days of absolute abuse to the body and boredom, the 1 or 2 encounters are worth it in the end. Hunt high and as far away from the roads as your body lets you. Very, very rocky country as well, so take a close look at aerials when doing your google earth scouting and not hike 3.5 miles into these areas that you had thought were grassy meadows on the internet lol. Best of luck out there to you all!
