APPLICATION STRATEGY 2019: Colorado Mule Deer -

Thank you. I dont see any articles for sheep, goat, moose?. Not a big deal for me as I cant even apply yet just wanted to make sure I applied correctly for a pp... When I put in for just a pp, it does not take your $100 (just the $9 app fee) until after the draw. I found that interesting as I am not even able to get in the draw, as this is just my second year of points so not even able to get in the weighted draw.
In the past if you had a big game tag the prior year you did not have to purchase a small game license to get preference points. It looks like from your reading and cpw that is no longer the case? Basically if you want in the draw or preference points one of the licenses is the only way?! Just clarifying there is no financial benefit to having a tag prior year? Thx in advance

Kevin R. Ill second matthews comments. Although I did end up killing a nice bull, it was an extremely tough hunt and it took a lot of luck and 15 lbs of shredded body fat to finally kill. A good population of elk in the unit, but lots of human activity (mainly hikers from the springs and Denver) make the bulls pretty non vocal and on the move. We did not see one decent mule deer. And I missed drawing the elk tag in 17 with 4 and drew in 18 with 5 points. Given the ludacrious new system colorado has it will likely be a 6 point draw unit now. Also if they dont get good snowfall this year, the unit will be a very high risk for extreme fire. Happy to help if you do get lucky enough to draw. Feel free to PM me.
In the wilderness area we saw very little scat, sign, and one black bear in 2 weeks of elk hunting. However it was much dryer than normal and much of there food sources would have been much more sparse than normal. I would avoid wilderness area for the short term. In fact if they dont get some good snowfall this year, that whole area could be in flames this summer.
