Bringing new hunters into the mix -

I am very excited this year to get to guide one of these folks. Got married three years ago to a Chinese Lao shi (teacher) from central China, Sichuan. During one of my many trips there I met one of my new cousins who I was shocked to see flingin arrows by his garage in Chengdu. Turns out he even belongs to the Chengdu Archery Club. Virtually nobody shoots any weapons in China. Guns aren’t even legal. Cops don’t even carry. They got billy clubs. Anyways him and his wife were just granted visas and will pay us a two week visit October 3-20 so I can take him on his first hunt for one of those weeks. Nobody at his archery club can believe it. There is virtually no hunting of any kind in China. They don’t even have a DNR. I will be 60 this September and this guy is about 40. We will be deer & turkey hunting in NW Indiana. It will be pretty cool he’s never even seen real live wildlife before.

Does anyone know the chance of getting the Colorado elk draw results by May 31st? I just did points last year, but I recall reading some threads on CDOW website issues last year. I saw it says June 5th as the 2018 post date, but thought in previous years results posted in late May. I am going to be cutting it real close because I have a great chance to draw Oregon elk with 21 points, but May 31st is the last day they allow hunt choice changes. Oregon does not do tag refunds. I should have a decent chance (~20%) at my CO elk & deer so I don't want conflicting tags after waiting 20+ years. Thanks.

Jeremiah, I drew this tag yesterday and read your comments. I'll be taking my wife along first time and intend to go for the archery season probably Sept. 1-8. I figure if nothing else, I would benefit by learning the area for October rifle. I wanted to get your opinion on good camping sites for that archery season. I normally tent camp in a Kodiak to stay mobile, but I want a good environment for the wife. So I am wondering if it might be best to camp at Seminoe State Park. She enjoys fishing. Is this a reasonable location for me to access the better mule deer hunt areas? My mule deer archery experience is limited. Most of my hunts have been in treestands at the AZ Kaibab. I'm wondering if this is even an option in the 87 terrain, or if it would strictly be spot & stalk. Thanks, Ken.

I'm curious if anyone knows if the deer quality in 101/102 has improved any since the 3rd year of cut tag quotas there. I have too many points in too many states and feel like I just need to start burning some of these off. The only other option is maybe sharing my points with a buddy and go do Region G. But I am 58 getting over some health issues and not excited about backpacking up there. Did that in 2002 it's rough. I've not seen any recent reviews of 101 or 102 lately.

I'm a bit confused on the points displayed. When I enter my points, is that for going into last year 2017? 19, Rather than what I have now 20? Because the chart shows 100% draw for Mt. Emily archery when I enter 20 points.
