Florida abandons science to shut down bear hunting - posted 3 years ago

Good luck with the consequences Florida...bears will do what they do in an increasing frequency and then it will still somehow be the hunters fault. Unfortunately they anti crowd will never understand the role of conservation and protection that hunting really provides wildlife.

No professional wolf hunters allowed in Frank Church - posted 3 years ago

Ran across a F&G employee in Montana who was setting traps for wolves to apply radio collars for a study. He said the reason the average hunter has difficulty taking a wolf is because the wolves are in the valley at night hunting and up in the timber by daybreak. They know whats up and how to avoid people. This is one of the reasons the numbers are increasing. Also saw a cow elk the wolves had taken down during the night right by the road. The unborn fetus was eaten out of her and the rest was left behind. They are not selective killers but they are somewhat selective eaters depending on how hungry they are. Sportsmen hunting and trapping will help but I predict it will not keep the wolf numbers in check.

Uhhh....Margaret G.
“In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when conserved by the sportsman. The excellent people who protest against all hunting, and consider sportsmen as enemies of wildlife, are wholly ignorant of the fact that in reality the genuine sportsman is by all odds the most important factor in keeping wild creatures from total extermination.” – Teddy Roosevelt

Well done, we need more of this in the hunting community. Some of the big names in the industry would do well to show a little more respect for the animals taken. Its not all about the kill shot of the biggest bull or buck along with 15 guides in the background.

How to keep your mind right on a long hunt - posted 4 years ago

Great article. A lot better than the standard "don't get discouraged" spill. I would add into one of those weeks, vehicle prep too. How many times have we all had to stop and fill the tires with air on the way out of town!.
