This is a large unit for District 15, located just east of Olympic National Park from Port Angeles down to Lake Cushman. Olympic National Forest dominates this unit. The forest, along with a sizeable piece of state ground, make up this predominantly public unit with the coastal edges holding small broken pieces of private. Buckhorn, The Brothers and Mount Skokomish Wilderness Areas are located on the western border and are roadless. Unit 621 is open to hunting by permit only.

This can be a very physical unit, come prepared.

This is a thick, steep forested unit with big game favoring the many river valleys flowing to the Hood Canal. Elevations change over 7,000-ft and ecosystems range from high alpine to tidal saltwater. Elk can be found along the entire drainage; they are typically higher up and in the national park during the summer, and lower during the winter months. The outer perimeter of this GMU is a lot of coastal front with a mix of small, privately owned agricultural land.

This GMU has a bit of everything, from high elevation rocky peaks with alpine basins, to thick old-growth forests, and even tidal saltwater coastlines. The thick cover in the unit makes for excellent big game cover and tough hunting. The low elevation private land has seen a large influx of non-native decorative trees, shrubs and flowers, some of which are invasive.

Seeing as a large percentage of the unit is public, access is easy. However, this can be a very physical hunt in steep, thick forests with few roads. Hiking up the drainages may be the easiest way to access the area and put you in big game country at the same time.

Primitive camping on National Forest land is allowed during most of the year, however, various fire bans and forest road closures may happen, so double check any restrictions or permits necessary prior to your trip. Lodging and accommodations are located in the town of Sequim in the north.
