Iron Wheel Guest Ranch LLC is owned and operated by Scott and Jody Cargill who previously operated Cargill Outfitters. We are Montana natives that were raised in the Jefferson valley. In 2019, we purchased IWGR from Scott’s parents who opened the business in the 80’s. We are thrilled to continue with the family business and add our own touch.
IWGR offers a variety of hunting and fishing excursions and other outdoor recreation opportunities. During the summer we offer horseback trail rides and float fishing trips on the Big Hole, Jefferson, and Madison rivers. Fishing on multiple local lakes, including alpine lakes, and ponds can also be arranged. Our trail rides, led by knowledgeable and experienced guides, range from 2 to 8 hours in length and offer beautiful views of the Highland and Tobacco Root mountains.
Our B&B is recently updated giving the feel of a modern farmhouse. Sit on the porch with coffee and watch the sunrise, play all day, then gather on the porch with a drink to watch the sunset. We have 7 well-appointed guest rooms that can suit a variety of needs. Some rooms have a shared bath and others have a private bath. The B&B is a year around operation that is great for groups, retreats, meetings, and those looking for a comfortable room and good homecooked meals.
The outfitting operation at IWGR is first class. We have had excellent success rates on our elk, deer, mountain lion, and bear hunts over the years. We offer both archery and rifle trips, and all hunting trips are a 7-day trip with 5 hunting days. The 30,000 acre private ranch we operate our bear, deer and elk hunts out of has two cabins with generator electricity and primitive camp showers available. Our operation no longer uses horses, instead we use a fleet of Polaris Rangers to get into the field. If you want comfort, class, and high-quality game IWGR is the place for you!
We operate on approximately 25,000 acres of private land that has prime deer and elk habitat. Archery hunting is awesome, hosting lots of bulls making lots of noise. If you want a high quality, high success hunt of a lifetime, reserve your spot and join us on the Dry Creek Ranch. A 7-day trip with 5 full days of hunting time and a full-time guide will hopefully provide you with an opportunity at a nice bull. Maximum of 3 hunters per week.
This is one of the finest private leases in Montana, consisting of about 25,000 acres of privately managed quality big game habitat. The ranch is surrounded by other large private ranches, which has created some real trophy quality elk herds. Our largest bull taken scored a whopping 409 7/8 gross score and ranks number 13 ever taken in Montana. Every year some real trophies are seen, some are shot, and some live to see another year. Not everyone will kill or even see a 350 or better bull, but they are there. The terrain encompasses 40 square miles of canyons and timber with lots of hiding places. Big bulls do just that, hide until found or they make a mistake. In order to get a big bull you need to be in an area that has big bulls. Average years opportunity is from 75% to 85% on 5 point or better bulls. Elk harvested must be 5×5 or better and deer must be 4×4 or better, continuing to ensure the quality of game for the future.
We have a good population of mule deer ranging from 20” to 28” on Dry Creek Ranch, and we offer deer hunts if space allows. This hunt requires a two-hunter minimum. There may be an option to harvest an elk if opportunity knocks. This is not an elk hunt, it is primarily a deer hunt, based out of the same hunting facility.
