If you are interested in weighing in on the proposed preference point changes for moose and bighorn sheep in Wyoming, you can join members of the Wildlife Taskforce TODAY at 5:30 p.m. at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) building at 2 Tilden Trail in Cody.

The presentation will begin at 6 p.m. following a tour of the new building.

After holding multiple meetings and discussions, the Taskforce has recommended the following changes to how bighorn sheep and moose licenses are issued to both residents and nonresidents.

These include:

  • Moving from a draw format where 75% of licenses are based upon top point holders to a completely random system.
  • Moving toward a weighted bonus point system where you gain an advantage with each subsequent year that you apply. An applicant’s total number of bonus points will also be squared.
  • Incorporating a four-year delay before these changes are implemented to allow the long-term applicants with high preference points a transition period.
