The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) is proposing possible hunt rule changes for deer, elk and the elk private lands use system (E-PLUS). In order to discuss these proposed changes and collect public comments, NMDGF is holding four public meetings July 25 through Aug. 6.

According to Ruidoso News, the changes include:

  • Splitting the deer archery season into two seasons: one in September, the other in January;
  • Adjusting licenses;
  • Adding new hunts;
  • Increasing elk harvest in certain areas; and
  • Establishing criteria to better administer the E-PLUS program.
