While a cold snap pushed Montana animals down to warmer elevations earlier this year, a week of unusual warmth has those that migrated early sticking around on farm fields. This is bad news for one particular farm in Hunting District 701 where herds of antelope “are consuming and trampling winter wheat fields,” the Williston Herald reports.

To help Osmo Farms, which participates in the state’s Block Management Program, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (Montana FWP) has announced an antelope game damage hunt that will run Nov. 16 to 29. Osmo Farms has been issued 10 antelope kill permits; however, Montana FWP is allowing hunters registered for the HD 701 antelope game damage hunt with an unfilled Region 7 antelope tag to participate, according to the Williston Herald.

If there are not enough interested hunters, Montana FWP plans to allow anyone with an unfilled 2020 antelope 007-20, 007-30 or 799-30 license to apply for permission to hunt on a first-come, first-served basis. Only five hunters are permitted to hunt each day and those who are allowed to participate must sign up for their day through the Region 7 Block Management Office.

If you are interested in participating, call Montana FWP at 406-234-0930 during business hours to see if spots are available and to schedule your day to hunt. Should you harvest an antelope during this hunt, you must report your harvest to Montana WFP Wildlife Biologist Emily Mitchell by calling or texting 770-359-8776.
