Meeting about migrating mule deer held next week

There will be a meeting on June 26 (next Monday) about a proposed seasonal recreational closure to help migrating mule deer near Fremont Lake in Wyoming. Migration routes are key to healthy herds and human encroachment can impact these pathways, especially in the spring and fall. 

The proposed closure would run April 1 to 30 and Nov. 1 to 30, according to Buckrail. 

The Fremont Lake area is considered a “bottleneck” migration location with 4,000 to 5,000 mule deer migrating through it every fall and spring. Because it is near residential development and the lake, human disturbance can often be high. The temporary closure would allow the deer to move through the area without interruption.

The Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest is hosting this meeting to discuss the proposed closure and gather public comments.
