Twenty-seven Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep are acclimating to their new terrain on Antelope Island in Utah following a successful relocation effort. Last week, the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) assisted in a helicopter capture of the bighorn sheep to help the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) establish a herd on Antelope Island on the Great Salt Lake, according to KGUN-9 News.
Captured bighorn sheep were handled carefully by a group of biologists and volunteers from the Bureau of Land Management, the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society, Under Armour and KUIU. Prior to relocation, each animal was checked for health and an ear tag was affixed to each one.
