For the seventh year in a row, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) has experienced record growth. As of Dec. 31, 2015, membership expanded to 219,750 people interested in preserving the environmental values that support hunting legacies and conservation stewardship for future generations.
“We are grateful for so many men and women who support and value conservation and our mission,” says David Allen, RMEF president and CEO. “We don’t take this influx of new members lightly. We will continue to do all in our power to conserve and enhance elk habitat, create new and improved access opportunities for hunters and remain active in issues impacting the future of wildlife and our hunting heritage.”
With more than 11,000 active volunteers in 500 chapters across the U.S., the RMEF has been able to revitalize more than 6.7 million acres of elk habitat and focus extensively on elk herds in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Missouri, Virginia and West Virginia. The organization continues to work to open and improve public access, fund and advocate for science-based resource management, and ensure the future of hunting for the next generation. Thanks to the support of RMEF as well as its members and volunteers, the future of elk, other wildlife and their habitats are more secure for future generations.
