For the seventh year in a row, a North Dakota chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation will be hosting a one-day event for kids to learn archery and hunting skills, as well as firearm safety.
The M.U.L.E.Y. Day Camp, which stands for “Mindful, Understanding, Legal and Ethical Youth” is free to all youth and their families. It will take place on July 12 from 10am to 2pm at the Bismarck-Mandan Rifle and Pistol Association’s Fried Family Marksmanship Complex.
M.U.L.E.Y. Is the official youth program of the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF). Since it started the youth camp in 2007, about 450 youth have attended.
At the camp, participants are taught how to shoot rifles, pistols and bows, in addition to being taught the importance of how to handle such weapons whether it be for hunting or sport.
Lunch will be provided, and every child will get to take home MDF hunting gifts and also have the chance to win various door prizes.
More information, including the event flyer, can be found on the organization’s Facebook page.
The camp was made possible by grants from the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, which provides funding for clubs and organizations that provide hunting and shooting activities for the youth of North Dakota.
The goal of the grant program, which is called “Encouraging Tomorrow’s Hunters,” is to present children with a positive learning experience of shooting and hunting, in hopes that it carries on as they grow older.
In addition to the grant funding, the group has also received support from other donors such as Midway USA, Cloverdale and Scheels.
