Interested in hunting a New Mexico oryx? If you’re an injured serviceman or woman, you can apply for an oryx hunt on the White Sands Missile Range. This week the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) announced this special oryx hunt, which will run Sept. 1, 2018, through March 31, 2019. Only injured military service members can apply for the chance at one of three tags and applications will be accepted June 13 through July 18.

Each hunt will last three days and fall between Sept. 1, 2018, and March 31, 2019. Dates and areas will be agreed upon by both the applicant as well as the White Sands Missile Range.
These injured military oryx hunts will not be once-in-a-lifetime hunts.

If successful, NMDGF will contact you to buy the license and pay the White Sands Missile Range’s access fee.
Anyone applying must be either active-duty military or a veteran of the U.S. military with a disability rating of 50% or higher in accordance with U.S. Veteran’s Administration guidelines.
All applicants (except for those who already have NMDGF Disabled Veteran cards) must provide proof of eligibility before the July 18 application deadline.
Residents and nonresidents may apply as long as they do not have a current-year oryx license.
