Paper tags won’t be necessary once you download MyFWP
Montana just made it easier for hunters to carry their tags and licenses into the backcountry. MyFWP is a new app from Montana Fish, Wildife and Parks (MTFWP) that stores and displays licenses, permits and digital carcass tags (e-tags) for in-the-field use – even when cell service is scarce.
“Modernizing the way state government does business allows us to better serve Montanans and remains a top priority as we lead the Montana Comeback,” said Governor Greg Gianforte. “I applaud FWP for bringing this idea to life, and I look forward to the convenience it will bring our hunters and anglers.”
The app launched on March 1 at the start of the 2022 license year and is available to download in Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
“This mobile app is a huge advancement in convenience for hunters and anglers,” said MFWP Director Hank Worsech. “Anglers can now display their fishing license on their smartphone, and hunters can notch their digital carcass tag with just a few taps of the app in the palm of their hand.”
Once you buy your license online or at a MFWP office, you will get to choose between digital or paper for each transaction. Right now, you can’t choose both and your decision is final for the entire license year for each tag. However, even if you decide to use a paper carcass tag, you can still use MyFWP to carry and view licenses and permits for the current year and the year prior.
And the app may have more functions and services in the future like harvest survey reporting.
